Human trafficking is the second largest global organized crime with an estimated annual turnover of US $ 39 billion.
An estimated 45 million people are victims of forced labor worldwide, 1.2 million of whom live in Europe. Over 50% are forced to sex work.
The proportion of children who have been victims of trafficking and slavery was 27%, of whom every third was a boy.
The International Organization of Labor (ILO) estimates that 98% of victims of forced prostitution are women.
Globally, the transfer and sentencing of traffickers is very low. Of the 132 countries monitored by the UNODC, 16% have so far failed to convict a single trafficker.
